Hey Guys! Thought I'd do a little..."What We've Been Up To." Life is always a bit crazy. But lately, we've been running at 100MPH. Here goes...
1. In case you missed it, we announced our "Gifting" for the year...via our Love for Blue Foundation. So proud of this accomplishment! We gifted $3500 to ABQ Youth. And countless cards, notes, and little gifts via Love Caregivers.
2. We are 100% into the Growers' Markets. Wow! We are so busy! You can see our schedule here. It's different from last year. This year, the arts and craft vendors, rotate weekends. And spots. So I make sure to put all the info, on our Facebook page.
This weekend we'll be at the ABQ Downtown Growers' Market. Spot #91. And the ABQ Rail Yards Market. Spot #22. That's our regular spot. All season long! Hope to see you there!
3. We started a new Market this week. The Wednesday Lunch Market. It's at Civic Plaza, from 11AM-2PM. Yesterday was Opening Day. We had a lot of fun. It got hot. And for the last hour, all I wanted to do...was jump in the Splash Pad area. With all the kids.
I can't really tell you, when we'll be there. They let us know on Tuesday night...doesn't give much notice. But it's a fun Market! There are a few farmers, some food, lots of crafts, free yoga, some music, the Splash Pad is open, and you can come say Hi!
4. I started a new blog. After a frustrating celebration. Were the manager, was so racist. And it took everything inside me, to not throw a Toddler Tantrum. No lie! So I started a blog.
If you've followed me, for a number of years...you may remember another food/restaurant blog that I had. It was super successful. I stayed anonymous. And after 5 years, I sold it. That one also started, after a bad experience. When we went to eat at Garcia's. Words are powerful!
Truth be told, I've probably spent more time eating out, in my lifetime...than any other person. I'm not here to bash people/restaurants. But for real...have some respect for your customers!
5. I'm still looking for a job. Something I was counting on, just didn't pan out. But I'm not letting that get me down. Just got to figure something out.
I need to be able to work a flexible schedule, be somewhat close to home, or only work events. Maybe part-time? I was talking to a friend that runs a Food Truck. And perhaps, during the larger events...I can go help her. Take the orders, keep things stocked, help her setup and tear down.
In case you don't know my situation, I can't go back to work full time. I have to take care of my Momma. Actually, I'm not supposed to leave her alone. But sometimes, I need to. So I need to have the flexibility to continue caring for her. And if she's having a bad week, I need to be able to stay home with her.
6. I'm working...sorta...with a Farmer Friend. I still do a lot of work with the DOH. Lots to do with their Meal Planning/Cooking Classes. And they needed a farmer. To purchase food from, take kiddos to their farm, and have them come into the office to sell their products.
Well, I wasn't sure who to ask. When I got the request from my boss. But there is a farmer, that lives down the road. I met him at the Market. And he is super sweet. He knows I need some work. And we kinda got into this venture together.
I'm not selling at his Market stand, or working on his farm. But we're working on this venture together. What's that saying..."Scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours." Ya, we are helping each other out.
I know there are other people that I could have turned to. But let's be real. They totally screwed me over. So what's that other saying? "Sleep with one eye open." I'm not that mean. But really? Could you have done me wrong...any worse?
So there you go. I'll be doing weekly field trips to a farm, writing recipes, teaching some classes at the DOH...and let's be real. Probably helping a little at the Market Stand. On my off weeks. Because I need some dinero. Thank You friend! Oh, I'm also going to help my friend get his social media going, for his farm. He has accounts set up. But doesn't really use them. Time to start taking pics of plants, veggies, and anything farm related!
7. I've been working really hard on our fundraisers. Our Annual Fun Run/Car Show is indefinitely postponed. Our first date was moved, after my Nanie's passing. I just felt, that we needed to pay some respect. Our next date, conflicts with something else. So I'm thinking September. I'll keep you updated.
The Tea Party though...I'm in full swing! August can't come soon enough. We've got a bunch of teapots. I've got a menu planned. Some crafts too. I'm just waiting to 100% secure the location. I'm thinking it will be too hot, to be outside. So I've been talking with a local Community Center.
So here are some of the details. The Tea Party is open to all ages! Grannys, Mommas, Little Girls. We're almost positive, that we are going to charge $25 for adults. And $10 for girls 10 and under. We are encouraging dressing up. I'm thinking of hosting a tea cup exchange. We we'll have our crafts for sale. As well as some affordable jewelry. And perhaps...some tea related items.
And for our Dinner and Dance...planning is also well on it's way. I was hoping to use a friend to cater. But it's looking more and more, like we're going to do the cooking. Because, Hello! This is a fundraiser. I can't pay $20 a plate. And only charge $25. It just doesn't make sense.
I've got the entertainment secure. And I'm still waiting to decide on which location. There are 2, that I have in mind. I've talked to them, drawn up a contract, and done some research. I just need to pull the trigger. Oh, and in case you missed it...this fundraiser will be in October.
To be honest, I'm a little overwhelmed. It's a TON of work. And I'm pretty much, the entire workforce. Ideally, we didn't want all the events so close together. But, it is what it is. Life happened, dates got moved, and here we are.
For 2019, and forward...I hope to have this schedule. The Fun Run Fundraiser/Car Show at the end of April. Our Tea Party at the beginning of August. And our Dinner and Dance...in October. That's our goal!
8. I'm still waiting on my Driver's License. I went and renewed mine, over a month ago. I still haven't gotten it, in the mail. And I still have 2 weeks, before I can file a complaint. Ugh! That is also the reason, I can't go apply for work. They won't take my paper version...
Because I tried. And my State Work ID, won't cut it. Argh! I just need a job. And eventually, my Driver's License. Does anyone know of any jobs? Watching kids, cooking, whatever...
9. I'm trying to convince my Mom, to go on vacay. With her sisters. But she feels guilty. Why? Because I've been wanting to go to Disney. And she would be going. I'm trying so hard, to get her to go. I think it would be good for her. Besides, they invited her!
I think my Mom feels guilty, because I'm staying behind. We had already asked my sister to watch our dogs. We were thinking, of going on a Road Trip. And she said yes. But this is different. So I told my Mom, I'd stay home. She can go have some fun. Lay on the beach, spend time with her sisters, and spend a day at Disney.
Because honestly, I've been worried about my Mom. She is struggling. Health wise. And I'm not sure, what's going on. I don't know if it's physical. Or if she's feeling down. Or what is going on. But I just want her to go have some fun!
To be 100% truthful, I am a bit jelly. You know, I was so used to travelling. For work. Other than work, I didn't do too much on these trips. But it was fun, to just go somewhere. Get out of town. See something different.
Oh, and I've been dying to go to Disney. For probably 2 years. I'm a BIG kid at heart! Let's just get that straight. But what can a girl do? I was telling one of my friends. Who happens to be a musician in Disney World. What was his answer? Pack up the dogs, and fly to Orlando. While my Mom is going to be gone for 10 days...he wants me to go hangout in Florida. Hit Disney, go fishing in the Atlantic, and just chill. It sounds like a dream...
10. I started organizing a Crochet Class. I was doing them last year. And the interest dwindled away. But apparently, people want to do it again. I've had a TON of interest. Especially at the Growers' Markets.
This time, I'll be charging. I've realized, my time is worth something too. I was asked to do a class, at a local craft store. The owner is looking to get more traffic into her store. She won't be charging me, until January. It's a pretty good deal. And whatever I charge, will be 100% mine.
I'm thinking $20 a person. $30 if you want me to get your supplies. I think that should be good. Pays for my time. Still makes it affordable, for my potential students. Because I was noticing at JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby, the classes go on sale for $50! Also, I'm still thinking of doing something at the Library again. Maybe the same price. Maybe a little less. Not sure. But I will definitely keep everyone up-to-date.
11. I started a new venture. I'll be incorporating it into our fundraisers. The hint...$5. I think most people will get it. I can't sell it at the Growers' Markets. Because I didn't make it. But you know, it will help!
12. Anyone want hang out? Do a little Recipe Exchange? Or Dinner Club sort of thing. No lie! Been putting a little something together. I used to do these all the time. When I lived alone. I miss it! So I'm started it all over again. :)
Let me know if you are interested. We can meet once a month. Each person can make a dish. And we can get together to eat. You know, we'd have a theme or something. Or maybe have one person in charge of the meal each month. It really is a fun thing. And is usually about 8-10 people. So it's not too crazy!
I think that's it. For the moment. I mean, we are doing a ton more. But I'm not sure on a lot of the details. And if I can share them yet. So we are going to leave it here. Happy Thursday!
XOXO,
Desiree

What's Up Wednesday #3
It's that time again. You know, What's Up Wednesday time! When I try and put some direction in my life. Joking! But really, these sort of posts, help me to stay a little organized. With my life. :)
Would you like to join in, on all the fun? It's super easy! Just answer some questions, and link up!
Now let's get started! If you are also doing a WUW, please link it. Or leave a comment with your link. I enjoy reading these.
1. What We're Eating This Week:
Have you taken a look at this post? From Monday. I'm super excited about Friday's dinner. Good Friday Torta...is in my top 5 meals of the year! And while Garcia's has a pretty good one...nothing compares to my Momma's. Nothing!
2. What I'm Reminiscing About:
Gosh, lots of things. But mostly loved ones who have passed away. March is such a tough month. So many of our loved ones, have gone to be with the Lord. During March. We are always celebrating them and their anniversaries!
3. What I'm Loving:
2018 has been all about taking better care of myself. And I just can't get enough of these face masks! At least once a week, I'm using one. And I'm still totally in love with them.
4. What We've Been Up To:
That would have to be, getting ready for the 2018 Growers' Market Season. I have been going to meetings, checking emails, buying supplies, working on items, and trying to decide what Markets we will be attending. So much stuff, that people don't see. Mostly we've been working on items, for the shop. And deciding on our display. :)
5. What I'm Dreading:
The MVD! Hands down. I HATE going to that place. And we need to go for 2 things. Renew the registration for our car. And I need my Driver's License. Ugh! I'm already having anxiety over the entire situation. Maybe I can convince my Mom to get her license early too!
6. What I'm Working On:
Organizing our garden. We weren't going to do one this year. But I find this picture on Facebook, and it got me thinking. My Mom also wants something to do, while I work. So I need to find some pallets. I already bought some seeds. And we'll probably go buy some plants on Friday. Any suggestions?
7. What I'm Excited About:
The 2018 Growers' Market Season. Opening Day for one Market is in just over 2 weeks. The other is in May. I don't feel prepared. At all! But I'm super excited to get back to it! We're cutting back this year. And probably only doing 2 Markets. We'll see...
8. What I'm Watching/Reading:
I went to watch I Can Only Imagine with my Mom yesterday. It was so good! And I would highly recommend it to you. It was so inspirational. One of those movies, that when you leave the theater...you are so happy and thankful. Also, I'd recommend MercyMe's music. It's incredible!
As far as TV, I've been loving new shows like 911. Which I'm so sad, had it's Season Finale last week. And I've been loving The Resident. This show could easily be my favorite show on TV! And an oldie but goody...Grey's Anatomy. When this show leaves TV, I will be so sad!!!
I've been trying to do more reading. As always, I'm reading the Bible. But I've also been digging into a box of books. That my friend sent me. Currently I'm reading this book. Someone was telling me that it's a movie. But I don't know...
9. What I'm Listening To:
Lots of things honestly. When it comes to music, I have ADD. But I've had my Rory And Joey CD on replay. For the last month! It just seems so fitting. For this Season in my Life. And for the Easter Season. It makes me cry, feel good, and sing...all day long! Definitely something I'd recommend.
10. What I'm Wearing:
I've actually been dressing up more. And by that I mean not only jeans...but actual dresses. I know. For someone that lives in sweats, that is pretty amazing! And like every Spring, I'm swooning over Old Navy's dresses. Every Spring, they have a big sale. And I try and pick up a few dresses when they are $10. Along with a nicer dress, for Easter. This one is for $15. And calling my name! I'm not sure what color I like most...the green, yellow, or white.
11. What I'm Doing This Weekend:
All things Easter! Tomorrow and Friday, we'll attend Mass in the evening. Friday I'll drive my Momma to Tome. We'll walk from the highway to the hill. Because there is no way, she can make it up the hill. I might go for the climb. Depending on how my Mom is feeling. On Sunday, we'll be at Easter Sunrise Mass. And we'll spend the afternoon at a Family BBQ. That I'm super excited about. :)
12. What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month:
I don't think I've said it enough...in this blog post. The opening of the Albuquerque Downtown Growers' Market! I really enjoy the Market in general. And then we've made all these friends there. My Momma really enjoys getting out too. Oh, and we make some money for our little foundation. ALWAYS a good time! If you are local, stop by and check it out. We'll be there twice a month...all season long! The ABQDGM is open on Saturdays from 8-12PM, at Robinson Park.
13. What Else Is New:
Well, I'm looking for a part-time job. Something near our home. Because my Momma is not supposed to be left alone. I'm thinking of one of the nearby stores. Retail isn't that bad. And pretty flexible. Which is what I need. With her health issues and doctors' appointments.
I was also asked to start teaching a Crochet Class. At a local Craft Store. Which could be a lot of fun. And I'm going to start teaching more classes at the DOH. Maybe the hospital too. My schedule is about to get real full!
Bonus Question: What's Your Favorite Easter Tradition:
Mine would definitely be Easter Sunrise Mass. It feels so good to start off the celebrations, at Church. I LOVE going to Church during the entire Holy Week. It reminds me so much, of my childhood. And going to Church with my Nanie. But there is something about Sunrise Mass. On Easter Sunday. Alleluia!
That's it for my WUW. I'm off to go take our car for some routine maintenance. And I need to go get my documents, to renew my Driver's License. Please wish me luck! Maybe say a few prayers for me. And perhaps, I might sneak in some crafting. I needed to make about 20 little crochet items...before Sunday. Happy Wednesday!
XOXO,
Desiree

Friday Favorites #12
Happy Friday! I guess this post would be better titled, "Celebrations." It was a busy week. That I'm still not sure, how it past so quickly! With good and bad. But isn't that what life is all about?
1. Homemade Gifts. So on Friday, last week, I decided I wanted to make a present. For one of the Birthday Parties we went to, over the weekend. Honestly, had I known about the second party...I would have made 2!
My little buddy, Kaleb, spent the entire 2017 Growers' Market Season, talking about this mat. He wanted one. So bad!!! During the season, I was lucky to keep one in stock at all times. But I knew exactly what I wanted to make him.
So on Friday after doing some work, I stopped and bought him some cars. And some other fun things. I had taken my Mom shopping already. I think we went on Thursday. And she had picked up a gift. I on the other hand, like to wait until the last minute. So I sat down and got to work. The little bag, was a last minute addition. I decided to stick the cars inside. I think it will be a new addition to the shop.
I like this little bag, because I tend to have a hard time, keeping the cars together. It's just a small drawstring bag. Took all of 20 minutes to figure out, and make. And I fit 3 Matchbox cars, and a little Monster truck inside.
The reason I want to add them to our sales items is, lots of kiddos try walking away with the cars. Or have a total meltdown, because I don't sell the cars. By themselves. So I think the bags will be a good thing. Anyway, this mat was so fun. And super quick to whip up. Kaleb loved it. He even took the time to see what was inside the pouch. I think it was a success!
Although the guys are good cooks, they are not bakers. And rarely think of sweet treats. Many times, they have odds and ends, that may have been left over. From a funeral reception, earlier in the day. Or they have packaged cookies. So for the last 3 years, I've tried to make some sort of dessert. Every time we go.
Usually I bake. But our oven died in December. And we've been putting off, buying a new stove. We've had the oven worked on twice, in about 10 years. And honestly, I just think it's time for a new stove. But I'm waiting for the stores to have a sale. Because we could also use a new washer and dryer. You know, buy more...save more!
So I can't bake. I've been focusing on other types of treats. On this day, I made Rainbow Fudge. And Lucky Charms Treats. Because St. Patrick's Day was on Saturday, it seemed appropriate. :)
I've made a few versions of fudge lately. And everyone LOVES it! To me, it's a little too sweet. But this was so easy to make. 3 ingredients. And those Lucky Charms treats were fun too. Probably more so, because of the Special Edition version, of the Lucky Charms. They were all green!
4. Saturday Shopping. We don't go shopping much. It completely tires my Momma out. I HATE cancer. Like nobody's business. But once in a while, my Momma has an urge to go shopping.
We got a sale last week. From JoAnn's. It had some really good deals. And since we were headed in that direction for a Birthday Party, she asked to go shopping. Sure. We left the house around noon. Our party was at 3:30PM. Plenty of time!
Well, we spend about 90 minutes at JoAnn's. My Mom stocked up, on some sewing essentials. She's been sewing a lot! I browsed the store. Picked up some yarn. And darn, I wish I had gotten a few more skeins! Anyone going to be around the westside JoAnn's?
Anyway, we headed to Hobby Lobby after that. She needed some crochet thread. And we had about an hour and a half to kill. Hobby Lobby is about 5 minutes from JoAnn's. And Peter Piper's in about 2 minutes from Hobby Lobby.
We honestly had 2 things on our list. But completely flipped over all the stuff! We hadn't been to Hobby Lobby in a while. They are all, so far from us. I died when I saw this sign. And totally regret not picking it up!!! I have ALWAYS loved flamingos. The quote is also spot on. Anyone still want to get me a birthday present?
Anyway, we had no real plans, for a big shopping adventure. But before you knew it, we were buying 7 teapots/pitchers. We had thread, wooden crates, and doll eyes. My Momma bought me the teapots/pitchers for my birthday. They were all 50-60% off. We are planning a Tea Party Fundraiser in the Summer. So these will be great! The crates were 90% off. We could use them for the Growers' Markets. Honestly, I think none of them were over $2. I know 3 were under $1!
But it was a nice adventure. We actually left Hobby Lobby a little later, than we had expected. As in, we spent 2 hours in there! With way more stuff than we thought. We bought a cart full. And walked out carry a few things. While pushing a cart. So it was surprising when we only spent $60. Score!
5. Kaleb's Birthday. We were about 30 minutes late to Kaleb's Birthday party. But just in time, for food. Literally, we got there, sat down, and the food was served! It was a lot of fun. I always enjoy hanging out with our friends. And it had been a while, since we had seen them.
Peter Piper's was CRAZY!!! As always on a weekend. There were a bunch of parties going on, lots of noise, and tons of food! But it really was a fun afternoon/evening. And a much welcomed distraction. Because we had gotten some bad news earlier.
But just look at that smile! How could this kid, not melt your heart? I miss seeing these people. During the GM Season, we'd see them 2 or 4 times a week. Ugh! When is the season going to start?
6. Easter Decorations. Sunday was cold and ugly. My Momma was tired from our adventures, on Saturday. And we got real lazy. After Church and breakfast, my Mom went to rest. I think she took a nap, and played games on her tablet. I didn't see her for about 4 hours...
I was bored. Cold. And itching to change our decorations. When I went to look for our box of Easter decor, I found this Tea Set. I bought it for my Mom...probably 6+ years ago. No lie! We'd gone to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel for Easter? I'm not sure the day. But she saw it.
My Mom loved the Tea Set. But didn't want it. Supposedly. Then we had gone home, and she kept talking about it. By the middle of the week, my Dad and I had gone looking for it. With no luck! About a month later, I was traveling for work. And found this beauty!
I immediately bought it. And wrapped it up. It was my Momma's birthday present that year. She LOVED it! And had a million plans for it. "I'm going to put it up, every Easter." We'd never opened the box!
So as I was changing out green and shamrocks for lambs, bunnies, and crosses...I pulled this out. And set it up, on our dining room table. It is so precious! And honestly, isn't too Easter-y. As in, we can keep it up all Spring! When my Mom saw it, she literally squealed! I think it was a success!
So Sunday afternoon we headed out. I really wish I would have had time, to make him a car mat. Boy is into his cars! Look how excited he is, to be turning 5. And because of all those presents. I don't know who was more excited about that big box...me or him! :) By the way, it was a HUGE Hot Wheels Track.
He is so much fun too! And super cute. When he found out it was my birthday later in the week, he came over with a present for me. Because I had gone to his party. Seriously, isn't that the cutest! PS...I LOVED all the bath products that my neighbors so generously gifted me.
8. Zebras. So from the party, we were supposed to meet some friends. At a local brewery. For a little Battle of the Bands. Not sure what happened. None of our friends showed up. And because the weather was so cold and windy...the show was cancelled. Boo!
Which was probably a good thing. My Mom was cold, tired, and in pain. We headed home...and straight for our PJs. But not before a quick and windy selfie. :)
This shirt is one of my favs! I bought it in November? At wait for it...Walmart! For like $12. I was actually looking for some jeggings/skinny jeans. Because I'm losing weight. Not intentionally...but I'll take it. And because I wasn't sure if it was permanent thing or not, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on jeans. My friend had also been praising these skinny jeans.
So while looking around, I found this top. And 2 others. A navy with flowers. And a white stop, with tiny red lips, and black polka dots. They are so comfy! So are the jeans. Which were under $8.
All day on Sunday, I had to laugh. Everyone loved my shirt. And called the zebras everything under the sun, except zebras. It is such a fun shirt. Without being so "In your face, animal print."
I LOVE sheet masks. I've used them for the last 20+ years. But this week, I felt like I needed something more. I used to be a daily makeup user. Until about 6 years ago. Lots of things got left behind, when I became a caregiver. But it has actually been really good for my skin.
Over the last 2 or 3 weeks, I've been wearing more and more makeup. We've had a lot funerals and such to attend. So my skin has been needing some TLC. I used this mask on Sunday night. And OMG, it's my new favorite! Well, behind my sheet masks.
It just left my skin feeling so good! Clean and soft. I really enjoyed it. My friends sent me a big box of masks, a while ago. And there are a few clay masks in there. But this one, I definitely will have my eye out for. Like, I want to buy 10!
I'm not 100% sure of the price. I know at the time I was sent the masks, my friend paid $2-3 a mask. And they were bought at Walmart. The last time I was rushing by, on my way to the dog food, I saw a display of these type of masks. The sign said 2 for $8. But I honestly, didn't look to well. I don't even know, if it was these masks. But I'd say, they'd be under $5. I'll let you know, when I find them. :)
It was so yummy! Homemade banana pancakes. I topped mine with pecans, more bananas, and some local honey. My Mom opted for bananas and maple syrup. She asked me to cook the pecans in hers.
And for those of you, who are wondering about pancakes. They are super easy to make! I get questions all the time. From scratch they are fast and easy. But you can also use a mix. If I use a mix, I'll grab the red box. Ugh! What is it called? Anyway, you add an egg, some milk, and veggie oil. Let the batter set for 5 minutes, and start cooking.
As far as cooking them. Well, I've done it on an electric griddle. Which is my favorite. Especially when cooking for a crowd. But for my Mom and I, I use a nonstick skillet. Put it on a medium heat, add a little butter in the pan. And you can fit 2 pancakes at a time. About 1/4 cup of batter each.
The thing I do, is always add fruit or nuts. I put the batter in the pan, and add some berries, bananas, or nuts while cooking. Yum! Then I add fruit to the top. I don't like syrup. I know. Weirdo here. But many times, I'll add fruit. Once in a while, I'll put some local honey. Oh, and I never add butter. Because I cook them in butter. It takes me about 10 minutes to cook up 10 smallish pancakes. :)
Hello! Yum! This is one of my favorite meals! So I decided to make some guac and fresh salsa. And I got busy cutting up some veggies. It was so delicious! I may or may not have snacked on tacos for lunch...multiple times this week. :)
But I did feel guilty. I'm not the only one in the fam, that LOVES my Momma's tacos and rice. My littlest, big sissy does too. And she's been wanting some, since she returned in January. Darn, she was traveling on this day too. And just came back last night. But these tacos, were long gone...by then. I guess, we'll just have to make some more.
12. Dollar Slippers. These slippers! Here's a quick story. Back in the late Summer/early Fall I took my Mom to eat breakfast. And we made a quick stop at a Dollar Tree. My Mom gets so excited to go to DT. Because she really never goes there. And every single time, she still asks me if things are just $1. Like 20 times, in one visit.
We were looking for some things for my Nanie. Mostly socks and decorations. When we saw these little slippers. More than a sock...but not something you can walk around in outside. I'd never seen them before. And after going through an entire box, I found 5 pairs for my Mom, 1 for my Nanie, and 2 for me. I was so sad. I wanted all the prints, my Mom had. Instead, I ended up with some random stripes.
There honestly, was not much of a selection, for sizes under an 8. My Mom wears a 5! But when I got to the bottom of the box, I found these. I didn't believe my eyes! Well, once we got home the other slippers became my go to. The first pair, completely fell apart.
To be honest, I wore them for months. Did good, and only wore them inside. Until January. Then they got gross. And I decided to throw them in the washer with my PJs. Same sort of fabric. So why not? Well, they fell apart. Insert my very sad face here. The other pair, I've lost them since my Nanie's passing. I wore them one night that we stood with her. And now I can't find them.
Prior to this, I wasn't much of a slipper person. What so ever. You should see some of my socks. They beg me to wear slippers. And I have never seen any of these at DT again. But earlier this week, I was going through some drawers. Tossing out undies and bras...that need to be retired. I found these slippers.
They are so comfy! Probably a size too big. But they do the trick. The inside is super warm. They have the faux sheep skin stuff inside. And a more durable fabric on the outside. With a nice bottom. I'm promising myself, not to ruin them. You know, by walking outside in them. :)
But I hope to find some more. At some point. The DT is all over the place, when it comes to items. It can be year, before you find something you are looking for. Or you may never see it again. Who knows?
13. Chili's Deal. I don't know, about a month ago, I took my Mom out to lunch. I had a giftcard for Outback. And we went for Walk-About-Wednesday. It was a ton of food, for $10. And really yummy!
So my Mom really enjoys Chili's. And she wanted to take me out for my birthday. So we were on the fence, between Chili's and Outback. But when she saw the commercial for Chili's...she was sold!
My Mom wanted a steak. Until we got there. And started looking at the menu. Before I knew it, she was ordering something completely different. I on the other hand, stuck to the steak. I about died, when they brought it out. So much food!
What does $10 get you? A salad, drink, and this entire plate! For $2 more, you can get a larger steak. I ended up bringing some food home. Because, hello! And it was so tasty. The steak was cooked perfectly. And was so tender. Not always the case, when you go out to eat.
I enjoyed spending the afternoon/evening with my Mom. I'm not much of a "Let's celebrate my birthday," kind of gal. But it was nice and low key. Total bonus, we ran into some friends. And got to chat with them, before we left. :)
14. Birthday Ice Cream. So after eating, my Mom had to run to Walmart. Which I was more than happy to do. I NEEDED to walk around. We both ate so much! We went to pick up a few things. Then she wanted to treat me to dessert. Back at Chili's I was too full.
2 hours later, after walking around a bit, we headed to Baskin Robbins. Everything is all in the same shopping area. So it's not like we were all over the city. But because it was my birthday, and they had some other BOGO promo going...we spent $2 for 2 sundaes. Good deal!
And honestly, the perfect sweet treat for me! I like going to this particular BR. Because they ALWAYS have Baseball Nut. My fav! And since I usually make my own cake...it was nice to just enjoy a treat.
15. My Mom and Her Games. So we had some time to kill. And there was free WIFI. When I got back to the table with our ice cream, my Mom had successfully downloaded 3 or 4 new games. To her tablet. Total success. Being that I usually have to sign her into whatever WIFI we are near. She is learning folks!
Anyway, after ice cream time, we were people watching. My favorite thing to do! I was listening to this group of little girls. Who were trying to figure out, the best way to spend their $5. I glanced across the table, and my Mom is all into Candy Crush! 100% new to her! in about 36 hours, she's already to level 20!
She may not look like she is happy. But she really was! And she was all into figuring out her new games. I think we sat there for another 45 minutes. As I answered emails and texts. And she played. :)
16. Pretty Flowers. Yesterday was tough. We said our goodbyes to a good friend of ours. It's crazy, we only knew each other...about 21 months. We met at the Growers' Market. And became fast friends.
He was there, during my Momma's diagnosis. And honestly, was the one and only person, we told for a long time. My Mom and Landis would sit and talk for hours. About their illness. Medications. Doctors. He gave her medicine. And they talked about treatments. When one was having a bad day, the other usually was too. They were a good support for each other. And often times, chatted over a Pepsi.
I also valued our friendship so much! Becoming fast friends. Landis' zest for life. His crazy stories. Funny jokes. And words of wisdom. It's like our Dear Lord just knew, we needed him in our lives. To help us. My Momma with her illness. Myself, with my grief.
We were blessed to become good friends. To be friends with his family. To try and prepare them, for what was ultimately going to happen. It was so hard, to see this man, being taken by cancer. In so many ways, it reminded me, of my Dad's journey...
Yesterday, we celebrated Landis' life. And with all the heartache and heavy emotions...there were so many flowers. Beacons of light. And promise. And hope. It just made me realize, there is beauty in everything.
17. Grief. This week, in may ways has been tough. Saturday we learned of Landis' passing. Tuesday we celebrate 3 years, of my Daddy being in Heaven. Our hearts are still heavy with grief, over my Nanie's passing.
I think about it all. The highs of celebrating birthdays this week. And the lows of grief. What I wouldn't give, for one more moment with my Daddy. To lose your Dad in your early 30s, is beyond difficult. I know he was always trying to prepare me, for that day. When he would no longer, be here with me. As an Earthly Being.
We also respected our dear friend. And gave him, the respect he needed. To spend time with his family. To die with dignity. But I so dearly, wanted to see him again. To just let him know, how important he was to my Mom and I.
And my Nanie. It's still so raw. You walk around, thinking it's going to be OK. In reality, she wasn't HER. For a long while. Illness does that to a person. I miss HER.
I find myself, trying to keep it together. Hold all the emotions in. So much death has happened in March. So many anniversaries. And while I try and fight those tears, and put on a smile...I realize that it's OK. To cry. To be angry. To be sad. I have this love...that I'm just not sure where it is supposed to go.
But it's the truth, you need to celebrate. You need to go out and about. To help you find your way. And the more you celebrate your life, the more blessings that are brought into your life.
I need to keep reminding myself of this. It's a tough lesson, to teach yourself. But it is a very valuable one.
That's it for this week's Friday Favorites! So many things. Such a roller coaster of a week. I truly, just want a few days to just be. To relax. For life, to not be so complicated. Do you know what I mean?
I think this week, will have lots of that. We have a Girl's Brunch on Sunday. That I'm pretty excited for. We haven't been to a Girl's Event in a while. I think since Christmas? And I have some fun dates lined up this week. With some of my favorite littles. During their Spring Break. Nothing too fancy. Lunch with one, ice cream with another, and maybe a picnic with the third. It should all be fun! Happy Friday!
XOXO,
Desiree

Friday Favorites
Happy Friday Y'all! It was another super tough week for me. I just can't get over this bug. Since I got my flu shot...back in September? I've been sick. Saturday started things for me again. And by Sunday night, I was ready to dig a hole. Turns out...in the last 10 days or so, I've tested positive for the flu, strep, and 2 ear infections. Ugh!
1. Yarn Sales. Last Friday, my Mom was dying to head over to Joann's. They were having a really good sale. Both Belle and I, were under the weather. But by 2PM, I had managed a shower. And we were on our way!
We were in the store about 2 hours. While my Mom shopped for fabric, I loaded pics on our Insta. The lines were kinda crazy...for cutting fabric. So I went to check out the yarn. Because it was on a major SALE! I got lost here...for at least an hour. It was like Heaven!!!
And after all the craft supplies shenanigans...we went to dinner. We thought about going to visit a friend. Who works at Chili's. But I just didn't have it in me. So we ended up, at Furr's. Equally as yummy. And I only had to drive across the parking lot!
2. Hobby Lobby. Saturday we had a Craft Show. And left our house around 5:30AM. To be there by 6AM. I had a good time. We had a good day in sales. But it was a looong day! We were setup by 7:30AM. And saw a bunch of our friends. Including Landis...he could easily be my fav of the week. Except I didn't snap any pics.
We also met, an amazing group of ladies. That had us laughing, the entire time we were there. It's always a good thing, to be surrounded by fun people. These shows can be looong! Total bonus, someone may have slipped my Momma a nice little bottle of something, something...on our way out! :)
By 3PM, when Tino rolled in, I was ready for a nap. Honestly, I was counting down to the magical hour of 4PM. When we could close our booth and pack up. I was grateful that Tino came to help us load up. I think it took 10 minutes. The Craft Show was OK. Not as amazing as everyone talked about. But like I said, we got to see some friends.
You would have thought, we would have gone straight home. But nah. We needed some stuffing. And Hobby Lobby wasn't that far. So that's where we went. My Momma stayed in the car. And I was only going for stuffing...
Then I met the yarn aisle. And saw the signs for a sale. Had me sold. Honestly, I needed to pick up a few things, for an order. So it wasn't that bad. How can you tell the Yarn Aisle no?
3. Beautiful Bits And Bobs. So while I was making my way out, I ran into this display. And you know what? If I was living alone, I probably would have dropped $500. Right then and there. Never blinking an eyelash.
Because everything was so cute! If you follow me on Insta, you saw a cute mug. Honestly, it's been on my mind ever since! That pineapple. Oh my! It had my heart, doing little flips. Why didn't I buy it?
Anyone wondering what to get me for Christmas. Just head to Hobby Lobby. Check out this display. Pick something. I'll be over the moon!!! Pineapples, pink, and polka dots!!!
4. Red, Rojo, Ruby, Amor, Bear. I'm smitten. Like a kitten! With Red. Her name...not so much! But she has definitely become my buddy. Meanwhile, we're trying out names. I can call her anything at all, and she comes running.
Sunday morning, I woke up feeling pretty bad. To be honest, when we got home on Saturday night, around 7PM, I fell asleep. And slept hard. Last week, we missed church. When I was delirious from not feeling well. This week, I could have easily gone back to bed. But I managed to make it to church.
We came home, and I hung out with Red. Tried to work on an order. And then, ended up taking a nap. I woke up in a bit of a rush! Because we had another gig...
6. Yummy Grub! At the brewing, we were hungry. Not so much me. More my Momma. So we shared a Cubano Panini. It was really good. Even if my throat was killing me. Those chips...so good! Wish I had some right now.
7. Baby Belle. Monday was real slow in our house. I don't think we all got rolling, until nearly 11AM. We were hurtin'!!! None of us really picked up. And I was 95% sure, this girl was going to have to go to the Vet.
She got some sort of cut or bite on her little arm. My Mom and I cleaned it up. And the 2 of us, spent the day napping on the couch. It was rough! My throat was also on fire. And so incredibly swollen!!!
By dinner time, the 2 of us, barely had any energy. But we made it out, to grab my Momma some dinner. This girl, no matter what is going on, is ready for a ride. We jammed a little in the car. She LOVES her some music! And we went back home, to sleep. :)
10. Honey and Lemon. For the last 2 weeks or so...I've been drinking honey and lemon...with hot water. It helps a lot. It's something I've done, since I started singing. But this week especially, I've needed my favorite miracle.
Total bonus, this local honey. I NEEDED this so bad! It's a really dark and rich color. And taste. I can definitely tell the difference. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed, that I find the honey lady again. And soon! Because that 1lb bottle, is nearly empty.
In case you are feeling under the weather, or have a sore throat, try this. Juice one lemon in a mug. Add an equal amount of honey. And fill the mug with hot water. It's kind of bitter tasting. You can always add more honey. But I find the more lemon-y that it is...the better for your throat. And in case you are wondering...I'm not a big lemon person. I prefer lime. But this is a miracle worker!
12. Juice and Sprite. I know, you probably think I'm nuts! I know. But I've been doing this forever! I mean FOREVER!!! I mix half juice and half Sprite or 7UP. And drink it. It keeps me hydrated. And helps give me some calories. I only do it, when I'm sick. I know, there is a lot of sugar involved. But when you aren't eating much, it helps. A LOT!!!
13. Farm Fresh Pumpkins! Yes friends, that is one HUGE pumpkin. And we decided to cook it up, on Wednesday. It had been sitting on our counter since mid October. Waiting for this day. Poor guy, gave his life...for pumpkin pies.
Tino gave us this pumpkin. And my Momma had been wanting to make pies. We just hadn't had time. It took 2 HUGE stock pots, and nearly all day. Because I had fallen asleep, my Momma did it her way. Me? Well, I would have cut this guy in half. And thrown it on a cooking sheet. Set the oven to 300*F. And let it bake.
Either way, it was yummy. I had a bowl, with a little milk and cinnamon. So stinkin' good. Wish I would have gotten 2 pumpkins. Or a banana sqaush. Maybe I should send Tino a message. Darn this pumpkin had a yummy taste!
14. Thankful! Super thankful for this babe! She is my life. And my light. Even if in my heart, I still want 2 or 3 babes. This girl, has filled my life with joy, love, and happiness.
I still struggle on the daily. Since losing my Dad. Especially during the holidays. I guess I just feel, torn. I'm in the middle of 2 stages of life. And I'm learning how to find peace. Most of all, I'm learning grace.
I wouldn't change a whole lot in my life. Not right now. Other than missing my Daddy. But I'm grateful for this time with my Momma. And her crazy pups. And this sweet girl. Thanksgiving was definitely different for us. But it was a good sort of different. Meanwhile, I want another pup. Like Miss Bell. I've even picked out a name...
So folks, that was our week. Mostly filled with sickness. But also filled with gratitude. And grace. I hope everyone had a blessed holiday! I'm off, to get some rest. Snuggle a pup or two. And see if I have to be at the Growers' Market tomorrow.
XOXO,
Desiree
But somehow, we've made it to Friday. And I'm so relieved! I'm also feeling better. Knock on wood! I hope things continue this upward movement. So let's get started with my Friday Favorites!

We came home, and I hung out with Red. Tried to work on an order. And then, ended up taking a nap. I woke up in a bit of a rush! Because we had another gig...
5. Latinas in the Arts. So on Sunday afternoon/evening, we went to a Latinas in the Arts event. This was our view. After a kinda long setup, we had this amazing view! Just off the patio.
And we got to meet so many amazing people. I just wish, I had been feeling better. I had to make a little speech about our business and foundation. And I know...most people couldn't hear me. I was really getting sick.
But it was such an enjoyable evening. I feel so blessed, to be a Chicana. And working in the arts. I also came to realize that our business is in it's 17th year! Our foundation, is also approaching year #3!!!
7. Baby Belle. Monday was real slow in our house. I don't think we all got rolling, until nearly 11AM. We were hurtin'!!! None of us really picked up. And I was 95% sure, this girl was going to have to go to the Vet.

8. Pupsky Pies. In case you are wondering, yes these are dog pies. No I didn't bake them. They are actually, the only thing I bought on Saturday. At the Craft Show. I was so out of it. But had promised our pups a treat.
So I cut up one of our four pies. Because I got a really good deal on these little guys. And you know what? Only Red liked them. What the heck?!?!?! Our dogs LOVE treats. But no one would eat this pie.
Oh well. I think Belle just wasn't feeling well. She actually had a really tough night, on Monday. But Red, licked every bite away. Sweetheart...who knows! I froze the other 3 pies. And we'll try it again. Maybe tonight.
9. Hodges Half Dozen. I woke up Tuesday, feeling like a truck had run me over. But I couldn't sleep. Mostly, because I couldn't breathe. But peeps, I was exhausted. So I turned on the TV. And Red curled up with me. To watch the first 2 episodes of Hodges Half Dozen.
If y'all know me at all, I'm a sucker for these kinds of shows. Anything having to do with multiple children, any show on TLC, or any reality show honestly...I love 'em all! This show didn't disappoint. Not one bit!
In short, Liz is a nurse. Daniel is in medical school. They have one son...and then bam! They have 5 little babes! I know, I'm already in love with this sweet fam! They just seem so wholesome...and it's an easy kind of watch. Not to mention, I'm always interested to see how parents handle this many kiddos!
But this is a miracle worker!
11. Crochet Magazines. So while I was resting on Tuesday, my Mom brought me a snack and magazine. It took me a while to get to it. Because It was a rough day. That cupcake, is still sitting on the counter. Waiting for me.
But this magazine, is incredible! I want to make everything inside. Before our next show. There is a gorgeous angel. These little bears, just made my heart sing! That snowman on the cover, is so cute too!
I've seen these magazines before. But never bought any. Now I want to get a sub. They have such cute patterns inside. A little pricey. But I think they are totally worth it!
15. Thanksgiving. We definitely had a different kind of holiday this year. Originally, my Momma and I had planned to go to the Casino. Rent a room, eat dinner, just take a break from everything. And then our plans changed. A friend suggested other things. And then plans changed again...
In the end, it was different. Not bad. Just different. I really enjoyed our dessert. And enjoyed not having to do dishes...or wake up at 4AM to cook. But waking up today, I do miss the leftovers. What the heck is Thanksgiving without leftovers?
It could also be, that I've been under the weather. For what seems like forever! Next year, I promise to make it better. Even if I just cook a turkey breast, and baby ham. Maybe I'll invite Mr. George over too. He looked so sad in church, yesterday morning.
I've met all these elderly folks. In the last year, we've gotten so close. Because I started to go to daily mass again. And when the holidays come, I realize just how lonely they are. I'm grateful to have my Momma. And to be able to spend this time with her.
Because I know, so many people who are alone. Who knows, I might even go all out next year. To invite our dear friends. We will be THAT house. And it will be such a blessing!
XOXO,
Desiree
