Time to BBQ

Hey Guys! How was your weekend? Ours was super busy! Like I'm exhausted. And just want to sleep all day. But the pile of laundry, just ain't going to do itself. So let's get moving on...

Well, I could tell you that I have great plans this week. That I have a menu. And grocery list. And that I'm going to cook all week. But honestly, as long as we get fed...that's all that matters!

Monday:
We're probably going to eat leftovers. Our neighbors had a Birthday BBQ yesterday. And sent us home, with SO MUCH FOOD!!! I'm guessing, that it is going to be equally as delish. Cheeseburgers, salads, and dessert!

Tuesday:
I think, in our house at least, Tuesday should be known as Tostada Tuesday. It's what we do. Move over tacos...tostadas have taken over our home!!!

Wednesday:
So for the last couple of weeks, we've had a Growers' Market on Wednesdays. But this week, it was cancelled for another event. And my Momma and aunts have decided to head to Santa Fe for the day. Leaves me at home. With the pups. For like 12 hours. My decision. Salad! All day long. I'm thinking a Mexican Chicken Salad. For lunch. And maybe grilled veggies and chicken for din-din. :)

Thursday:
Gosh who the heck knows? I'd like to be positive and say, that I'm going to cook. But the reality is, it's heading towards the end of the week. And more than likely, I won't be cooking. Maybe we can just swing by Wendy's. Folks I'm being real here!

Friday:
As silly as it sounds, I'm sorta looking forward to Friday. I think we'll grill. I have some shrimp in the freezer. And lots of veggies. Maybe some skewers. Or grilled shrimp tacos. It all sounds yummy!

Saturday:
2nd Annual Blea Summer Party!!! So I'm not cooking. I'm looking forward to some burgers poolside. Even if I don't swim. And there is a 50% chance of rain. We ain't letting that get us down!

Sunday:
It's Father's Day. And for all the reasons...we don't really do too much. My Momma nor I, have a daddy here on Earth. So we haven't really made any big plans. Plus it's post-Blea Summer Party. And there is another 50% chance of rain in the forecast. Maybe we'll head to a local concert. Or just stay home. And munch on a baked potato.

Things I'm looking forward to making this week? There are quite a few recipes I'd like to try out. But with this heat, I'm being honest, it ain't happening. Not really. For the last week, if it wasn't a breakfast burrito...it's been fresh fruit for breakfast. It's how I roll.

Lunch has been salads...or sammies. Because really, who wants to be in the kitchen? I want to be enjoying the weather. Playing with the pups. Reading a book, doing work, or crocheting...under our pine trees. I want to watch the hummingbirds eat, play in the flower beds, and go on long walks.

So our food is starting to get real simple. Real fast. And our weekends sure are feeling up fast! Birthday parties, graduations, BBQs, Summer parties, and Growers' Markets...and ALL the Summer Fun!

I came across this glorious recipe. And thought, I NEED to make that. For the Blea Summer Party. Yum! There are also a ton of grilling ideas, that I want to try here. Southern Living never lets me down either. I found a ton of ideas. That I want to try out this Summer. Oh and this is going on the top of my list!

That's it for now. Honestly, if I manage cooking 4 days this week...we shall call that a success! Because I've been so exhausted. I not sure what is going on with me. I just know, I have orders to work on, laundry to get done, and at some point...I need to get us fed. Is anyone else in the same boat? Happy Monday!

XOXO,
Desiree

Summer Holiday Eats

Today is not only Monday...it's a Holiday! Happy Memorial Day! So while you are enjoying the day off of work, don't forget to remember the real reason behind this holiday.

The men and women, that gave their lives...for our freedoms! Stop and think about it. Thank a Service Man or Woman. Thank their families. Because they are amazing!

Back to regularly scheduled programming. You know, our meal plan. For the week. I'm feeling really positive this week. Because I've hit some awesome produce sales. Lots of pretty fruits and vegs, for grilling. This week, we'll be cooking quite a bit!

Monday:
Today? Well, I know I just went on and on, about cooking. And it's the Holiday kick-off, to Summer. So we SHOULD be grilling today. But nah, we're going to go have lunch at the Casino. Which means...one meal today. We'll return to cooking tomorrow!

Tuesday:
We're grilling! Chicken to be exact. With asparagus, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Maybe a baked potato too! My mouth is already watering!

Wednesday:
A big 'ol salad. With some grilled shrimp. I'm thinking of marinating them in lime juice. Maybe some garlic and herbs too. Avocado would be good too. I just need to buy some.

Thursday:
Hamburgers. More like cheeseburgers. With a cucumber salad. Perhaps, some grilled fruit. For dessert.

Friday:
This is our off week, from the Growers' Markets. Which is nice. It gives us some time off, to do fun stuff too. We're going to the Old Town Fiestas. So we'll probably pick up, something from Little Anita's.

Saturday:
Rinse and repeat...Friday. We'll probably eat a burger or something at the Fiestas. It happens once a year. And you have to enjoy yourself!

Sunday:
Not going to lie, we'll probably grab a bite to eat, at the Fiestas. Again! Or in the surrounding area. My Mom really enjoys going to these Fiestas. And we just lucked out, that it's our off week. So my Mom wants to take full advantage.

So as you can see, 4 days this week...we are cheating. But not really. I plan on making pancakes one day, waffles another, and Huevos Mexicanos. My Mom really enjoys a good breakfast. We also have plenty of fruit, to snack on. As well as veggies. And I plan on making some yummy bites for lunch.

And as far as recipes that I want to try this week. Well, there are a few. I've been craving Mint Chocolate anything. So I found this little recipe. It sounds AMAZING! Gosh, this salad sounds so good! It will make the perfect light lunch.

I also happened to find a great deal on cucumbers. And I want to try something new. I came across this post, with so many ideas. Yum! Same goes for strawberries. I found this post with lots of ideas. And this post has a ton of ideas too! Lastly, I want to try this yummy drink. We have plenty of strawberries and limes. And it will make a fun addition to one of our meals.

XOXO,
Desiree

What Have I Been Up To?

Hey Guys! Thought I'd do a little..."What We've Been Up To." Life is always a bit crazy. But lately, we've been running at 100MPH. Here goes...

 1. In case you missed it, we announced our "Gifting" for the year...via our Love for Blue Foundation. So proud of this accomplishment! We gifted $3500 to ABQ Youth. And countless cards, notes, and little gifts via Love Caregivers.

 2. We are 100% into the Growers' Markets. Wow! We are so busy! You can see our schedule here. It's different from last year. This year, the arts and craft vendors, rotate weekends. And spots. So I make sure to put all the info, on our Facebook page.

This weekend we'll be at the ABQ Downtown Growers' Market. Spot #91. And the ABQ Rail Yards Market. Spot #22. That's our regular spot. All season long! Hope to see you there!

 3. We started a new Market this week. The Wednesday Lunch Market. It's at Civic Plaza, from 11AM-2PM. Yesterday was Opening Day. We had a lot of fun. It got hot. And for the last hour, all I wanted to do...was jump in the Splash Pad area. With all the kids.

I can't really tell you, when we'll be there. They let us know on Tuesday night...doesn't give much notice. But it's a fun Market! There are a few farmers, some food, lots of crafts, free yoga, some music, the Splash Pad is open, and you can come say Hi!

 4. I started a new blog. After a frustrating celebration. Were the manager, was so racist. And it took everything inside me, to not throw a Toddler Tantrum. No lie! So I started a blog.

If you've followed me, for a number of years...you may remember another food/restaurant blog that I had. It was super successful. I stayed anonymous. And after 5 years, I sold it. That one also started, after a bad experience. When we went to eat at Garcia's. Words are powerful!

Truth be told, I've probably spent more time eating out, in my lifetime...than any other person. I'm not here to bash people/restaurants. But for real...have some respect for your customers!

 5. I'm still looking for a job. Something I was counting on, just didn't pan out. But I'm not letting that get me down. Just got to figure something out.

I need to be able to work a flexible schedule, be somewhat close to home, or only work events. Maybe part-time? I was talking to a friend that runs a Food Truck. And perhaps, during the larger events...I can go help her. Take the orders, keep things stocked, help her setup and tear down.

In case you don't know my situation, I can't go back to work full time. I have to take care of my Momma. Actually, I'm not supposed to leave her alone. But sometimes, I need to. So I need to have the flexibility to continue caring for her. And if she's having a bad week, I need to be able to stay home with her.

 6. I'm working...sorta...with a Farmer Friend. I still do a lot of work with the DOH. Lots to do with their Meal Planning/Cooking Classes. And they needed a farmer. To purchase food from, take kiddos to their farm, and have them come into the office to sell their products.

Well, I wasn't sure who to ask. When I got the request from my boss. But there is a farmer, that lives down the road. I met him at the Market. And he is super sweet. He knows I need some work. And we kinda got into this venture together.

I'm not selling at his Market stand, or working on his farm. But we're working on this venture together. What's that saying..."Scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours." Ya, we are helping each other out.

I know there are other people that I could have turned to. But let's be real. They totally screwed me over. So what's that other saying? "Sleep with one eye open." I'm not that mean. But really? Could you have done me wrong...any worse?

So there you go. I'll be doing weekly field trips to a farm, writing recipes, teaching some classes at the DOH...and let's be real. Probably helping a little at the Market Stand. On my off weeks. Because I need some dinero. Thank You friend! Oh, I'm also going to help my friend get his social media going, for his farm. He has accounts set up. But doesn't really use them. Time to start taking pics of plants, veggies, and anything farm related!

 7. I've been working really hard on our fundraisers. Our Annual Fun Run/Car Show is indefinitely postponed. Our first date was moved, after my Nanie's passing. I just felt, that we needed to pay some respect. Our next date, conflicts with something else. So I'm thinking September. I'll keep you updated.

The Tea Party though...I'm in full swing! August can't come soon enough. We've got a bunch of teapots. I've got a menu planned. Some crafts too. I'm just waiting to 100% secure the location. I'm thinking it will be too hot, to be outside. So I've been talking with a local Community Center.

So here are some of the details. The Tea Party is open to all ages! Grannys, Mommas, Little Girls. We're almost positive, that we are going to charge $25 for adults. And $10 for girls 10 and under. We are encouraging dressing up. I'm thinking of hosting a tea cup exchange. We we'll have our crafts for sale. As well as some affordable jewelry. And perhaps...some tea related items.

And for our Dinner and Dance...planning is also well on it's way. I was hoping to use a friend to cater. But it's looking more and more, like we're going to do the cooking. Because, Hello! This is a fundraiser. I can't pay $20 a plate. And only charge $25. It just doesn't make sense.

I've got the entertainment secure. And I'm still waiting to decide on which location. There are 2, that I have in mind. I've talked to them, drawn up a contract, and done some research. I just need to pull the trigger. Oh, and in case you missed it...this fundraiser will be in October.

To be honest, I'm a little overwhelmed. It's a TON of work. And I'm pretty much, the entire workforce. Ideally, we didn't want all the events so close together. But, it is what it is. Life happened, dates got moved, and here we are.

For 2019, and forward...I hope to have this schedule. The Fun Run Fundraiser/Car Show at the end of April. Our Tea Party at the beginning of August. And our Dinner and Dance...in October. That's our goal!

 8. I'm still waiting on my Driver's License. I went and renewed mine, over a month ago. I still haven't gotten it, in the mail. And I still have 2 weeks, before I can file a complaint. Ugh! That is also the reason, I can't go apply for work. They won't take my paper version...

Because I tried. And my State Work ID, won't cut it. Argh! I just need a job. And eventually, my Driver's License. Does anyone know of any jobs? Watching kids, cooking, whatever...

 9. I'm trying to convince my Mom, to go on vacay. With her sisters. But she feels guilty. Why? Because I've been wanting to go to Disney. And she would be going. I'm trying so hard, to get her to go. I think it would be good for her. Besides, they invited her!

I think my Mom feels guilty, because I'm staying behind. We had already asked my sister to watch our dogs. We were thinking, of going on a Road Trip. And she said yes. But this is different. So I told my Mom, I'd stay home. She can go have some fun. Lay on the beach, spend time with her sisters, and spend a day at Disney.

Because honestly, I've been worried about my Mom. She is struggling. Health wise. And I'm not sure, what's going on. I don't know if it's physical. Or if she's feeling down. Or what is going on. But I just want her to go have some fun!

To be 100% truthful, I am a bit jelly. You know, I was so used to travelling. For work. Other than work, I didn't do too much on these trips. But it was fun, to just go somewhere. Get out of town. See something different.

Oh, and I've been dying to go to Disney. For probably 2 years. I'm a BIG kid at heart! Let's just get that straight. But what can a girl do? I was telling one of my friends. Who happens to be a musician in Disney World. What was his answer? Pack up the dogs, and fly to Orlando. While my Mom is going to be gone for 10 days...he wants me to go hangout in Florida. Hit Disney, go fishing in the Atlantic, and just chill. It sounds like a dream...

10. I started organizing a Crochet Class. I was doing them last year. And the interest dwindled away. But apparently, people want to do it again. I've had a TON of interest. Especially at the Growers' Markets.

This time, I'll be charging. I've realized, my time is worth something too. I was asked to do a class, at a local craft store. The owner is looking to get more traffic into her store. She won't be charging me, until January. It's a pretty good deal. And whatever I charge, will be 100% mine.

I'm thinking $20 a person. $30 if you want me to get your supplies. I think that should be good. Pays for my time. Still makes it affordable, for my potential students. Because I was noticing at JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby, the classes go on sale for $50! Also, I'm still thinking of doing something at the Library again. Maybe the same price. Maybe a little less. Not sure. But I will definitely keep everyone up-to-date.

11.  I started a new venture. I'll be incorporating it into our fundraisers. The hint...$5. I think most people will get it. I can't sell it at the Growers' Markets. Because I didn't make it. But you know, it will help!

12. Anyone want hang out? Do a little Recipe Exchange? Or Dinner Club sort of thing. No lie! Been putting a little something together. I used to do these all the time. When I lived alone. I miss it! So I'm started it all over again. :)

Let me know if you are interested. We can meet once a month. Each person can make a dish. And we can get together to eat. You know, we'd have a theme or something. Or maybe have one person in charge of the meal each month. It really is a fun thing. And is usually about 8-10 people. So it's not too crazy!

I think that's it. For the moment. I mean, we are doing a ton more. But I'm not sure on a lot of the details. And if I can share them yet. So we are going to leave it here. Happy Thursday!

XOXO,
Desiree

Eating in HOT Weather

Hey Guys! I'm so exhausted today. We had a busy weekend. Crazy busy! I hosted a dinner for my Mom's birthday Friday. We were at the Growers' Markets, both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was my Mom's birthday. And we went to a BBQ for my cousin's birthday. Of course, we can't forget Mother's Day yesterday!

So I'm a little on the tired side today. Like, I want to stay in bed all day long! But life moves forward. And I have a list of things to complete. First up, what are we eating? I need to do some grocery shopping.

Monday:
Easy peasy! We are having tacos and rice tonight. It's super easy. And fast! Oh, and we scored some free, grass fed beef on Saturday. Yay, for Farmer Friends!

Tuesday:
Some sort of salad. With chicken. I made one last Thursday. It was so good. And perfect for this HOT weather!

Wednesday:
We're going to watch my little cousin, play softball. So I'm thinking...ballpark hot dogs! Maybe some nachos. Because there is nothing like going to the Little League Fields...and eating from the concession stands. :)

Thursday:
I want to grill. It's fast. Easy. And there is minimum clean up. Also, Grey's has it's season finale. So I'm thinking shrimp kabobs. Maybe some rice pilaf. Definitely some grilled veggies!

Friday:
We're off from the Markets this week. Maybe we'll go out. To Chili's. Yum! The 3 for $10 Commercials are killing me! The food looks so yummy!

Saturday:
My cousin and her wife work at one of our local hospitals. And they are having Family Night at our Zoo. So my Mom and I are joining them. :) Dinner was really good last year. We went. So I'm excited! Family, Zoo Fun, and yummy food!!!

Sunday:
Thinking about grilling again. Or a light pasta. Something light and fast. So we can dine alfresco.

As far as recipes I want to try. I'm looking more, for lighter items. I've been sick for weeks. And the heavy proteins, are just too much right now. It's also crazy HOT out here. And it's barely May...

I want to try this salad. It just sounds yummy. And I LOVE strawberries!!! And you can never go wrong with a Greek Salad. This Mediterranean Pasta sounds amazing too! Spinach and Tomato Pasta sounds like a winner too! Lastly, this pasta dish sounds like a perfect Sunday night dinner! Yum!

Like always, if you know of a yummy recipe I should try. Let me know. Please leave me a comment or link. I LOVE to try new things! Happy Monday!

Desiree

All Cacti, All the Time!

I know. I live in the Southwest. And when people come to visit our great state, they are generally looking for a few things. Mexican food, Mariachis, and cacti. Hahaha! Makes me laugh too.

The last, really makes me laugh. When we started selling at the ABQ Downtown Growers' Market...we started getting requests. My Mom makes these little pincushions. So many of our out-of-town customers kept admiring and buying them. Then I finally overheard a convo. People thought they were little cactus. We kept making them...

In the off season, we started to get requests for cactus hats. And I finally decided to check out some cactus projects. On Pinterest. When did our little cactus, get so popular? So here are a few more things, I've come across since.

I'm in LOVE with those little bags! And the ring holders. The sign is super cute too! And honestly, I'm not a HUGE fan of cactus...more on that later. But these are cute.

The party items, on here...made me laugh! But they are pretty cute. If cactus is your thing! I really like the pillow in the middle. Super cute! Even for an outdoor seating area.

This bag caught my eye. If I were to "rock" the cacti...this is how I'd do it. I don't draw well. But this doesn't look hard. At all!

And how many of you, remember fabric paint from the 90s? My then SIL, made us all bags and shirts one year. For Christmas. Something similar to this idea. But more in designs that we liked. My Mom is obsessed with owls...so she got an owl. My Mom still uses that bag. So Sandra, if you're reading this...Mom LOVES that bag!

We make a TON of baby items! A TON!!! And I thought this would be super cute. In fact, the last time we went to the fabric store, we saw a lot of cacti prints. My Mom already makes similar onesies. With little diaper covers. So this would be fun, to incorporate into our little stash! The little button, totally makes it for me!

Recently on TV, I saw a similar craft. These would be fun, in a smaller size. Don't you think? Maybe an 8X10. The pom pom flower makes this for me!

These little pincushions, are something we've been asked to make. For a customer...or 5! I think they are super cute! And different. From the regular pincushions that you see.

And these little rock cacti, made me laugh! All the way, to the craft store. To look for supplies. You'd be surprised, how many people like to buy rock art. I know! But there is a booth, that makes painted rocks. To resemble animals and people. Super cute. So I think these would be fun too!

This hat pattern, made it's way around Facebook. During the winter. And I never found the original pattern. So I made one up. And I sold a ton, of these hats! All sizes. Honestly, I want one for me. Maybe I'll make one by next winter. :) The little flower, was my fav!

These little cacti, are so adorable! Early last season, I was sent this pic. And started to try and figure out, how to make them. There were zero patterns around! But I just adore these. If you come by the Growers' Markets...chances are, I'll have a dozen! No two, are alike!

I was also sent this pic. And I want to tackle these gals too! They feel a little more whimsical. With their eyes and flowers.

To me, these look a little more, like a real cactus. I bought about a dozen pots, to make them. I just need to sit and make them. :)

And just last week, I found this in my email inbox! A pillow. Can anyone tell what my next project is going to be? Super fun! I just want to add a little smile to her.

So here's the thing, I didn't realize how popular cactus had become. I don't know where I've been. I just hadn't realized it. Which is hilarious! Being that any store you go to, has them all over their home decor items.

When I was little my Mom and Grandpa would eat cactus. Nopales actually. Me? Heck no! They were slimy! And it seemed weird to me. To eat the plants, that my Grandma would scream at us...to stay away from.

And then there was that incident, when my cousin fell into the cactus. And I had to sit and pull out the needles. With a pair of tweezers. The tiny needles. As we hide from our Grandma. And kept making our third cousin, run back and forth to the house. For supplies. And to cover for us. I was the oldest. So I got the job with the tweezers. We were scared to death of our Grandma finding out, what had happened. Because she probably would have beat us. Not really. But we would have been in some serious trouble!

And does anyone recall, that time Mr. Sancho stepped in the cactus? And then, sorta fell over it. When we were playing a gig. And we spent what seemed like hours, pulling out the needles. From his traje...while still having to keep to our gig schedule. I had nightmares about Attacking Cactus!!!

So I'm not the biggest fan. But they are cute. And although, I pass them up at the store...I can see the appeal. I'd much rather buy a fern, than a cactus. But I can see how people like them. Especially, if you are not from the Southwest. The crafted ones, are much cuter...than the real cactus. A lot less prickly too! :)

Have you seen any Cactus Crafts? Are you interested in them? Would you like to purchase something, similar? Just wondering. I'm always trying to stay ahead of the curve. Even if sometimes, I fall way behind! Happy Tuesday!

Desiree

Eating...During a Busy Week

Happy Monday! How was every one's weekend? I'm so tired. We had a busy weekend. Not that we did a lot. But that we just kept busy. I'm so ready to take a nap...

But on to our week. In food. I was talking to my cousin on Saturday...and sorta realized I've been slacking. In the cooking department. So I'm really going to try and make an effort this week. Even though, it's going to be a busy week!

Monday:
I need to go get my Driver's License. On-going. For like a month now! After all the headache...we're probably going to grab a bite to eat. Don't judge me! Just pray for me. I need my Driver's License!

Tuesday:
Don't judge me again. I'm not making excuses. But Tuesday is going to be a full day too. I'm going to help a friend, get ready for the Growers' Market. She needs me to help her make labels. And we have a dog, that needs to go visit her new home. Oh, and my little cousin's softball game. So I'm thinking Taco Tuesday. Somewhere. Maybe we'll pickup Little Anita's on the way!

Wednesday:
My other little cousin's birthday is on Wednesday. And we were invited to go have dinner with them. At Cici's. Anyone else love that place? We never go. But we might. If not...I'm thinking grilled chicken and a salad. Yum! That sounds really good.

Thursday:
We are working hard for the Opening Day at the ABQ Downtown Growers' Market. So I'm thinking, we need to work on our projects. Not do a crazy meal. Thursday sounds like a good day, to have a veggie pasta. I made one last night. With a salad. And it was perfect! We had Angel Hair pasta last night. So I'm thinking a penne pasta...with lots of fresh veggies. Zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, spinach, and tomatoes.

Friday:
The end of the week! Grilling sounds like a good option. Chicken, a baked potato, corn on the cob. Maybe even a fresh salad! Because who wants to do a ton of dishes...at the end of the week!

Saturday:
We would have survived the day at the Growers' Market! And probably eaten a ton too! Because they have such yummy food! I'm thinking we might eat beans and chili. Maybe I can convince my Momma to make some tortillas too. :)

Sunday:
Party Day for us! My other little cousin's 1st Birthday party is on Sunday. And we are going to go watch a friend, play a concert. So we don't have to worry too much about food. I'm trying folks. But with a full schedule...what can you do?

As for food I'm thinking of trying this week...well there is a lot that I want to try. This simple avocado salad sounds so good. With a piece of grilled chicken. Maybe on Friday.

Over the weekend, my cousin had us over. And she made the BEST stuffed mushrooms. She sorta gave me the recipe. And I want to make some. But I also did a quick search, and found this recipe. Which also sounds amazing! Except I wouldn't put clams. Maybe I'd sub diced mushrooms, to make them all veggie. Or add a little sausage.

Lastly, I was looking at this post, about stoned fruit. Grilled stoned fruit! And I want to make it all! So I'll be looking for some yummy fruit. To try something like this. When I lived alone, I used to grill fruit all the time. I'd top it with a little heavy cream, ice cream, or even yogurt. Yum! I can already taste it.

What's on your menu this week? Have you come across any tasty recipes? Should I be making something...that I'm not. Let me know!

XOXO,
Desiree

Rain or Shine #14

How has every one's week been? Ours has been so busy! We didn't expect it. At all! Being the week after a holiday...I would have thought it would have been slower. So let's talk...

I mean, we have had a ton of blessings. Just because, it was Easter. And He Has RISEN!!! What a blessing that is. All by itself. :)

When It Rains:

 1. Do you follow me on social media? Last Thursday...I was talking about how wonderful my day was going. My Mom and I were running errands. Everything was going perfect...until it wasn't. I had a major issue. I couldn't get my Driver's License.

 2. Why you ask? I had to go get a new Social Security card. So I'm waiting for it. And hoping I can get my new Driver's License...by tomorrow. Well, you know what I mean. Go for it.

 3. We went to visit my little cousin. And only got to visit for like 30 minutes. Darn! We got there too late. Who knew, visiting hours were over at 7PM.

 4. Did I mention? My cousin is in the hospital. She's been there for 3 weeks. And will at least be there...for at least 5 more days. Boo!

 5. Having a meeting, the night before Easter. Who does that? The RYM...that's who! Good thing, I wasn't going out of town.

 6. Having 2 Easter BBQs, at the same time. We left one early...and we were late to the other. But we still managed to have a good time.

 7. Missing our family at Friday's breakfast. We were just so early in our schedule. And they were running late. Boo! But we did get to visit for a little bit.

 8. Losing my arm...to the doll I was making. It totally threw off my momentum. And now, I need to finish said doll.

 9. Not finishing up, my Easter gifts. I had thought I could make 20 something little baskets. And I was doing well. I was crocheting them. Just big enough for an egg to fit inside. Then I fell asleep early. Two nights in a row. And spent Saturday doing yard work. Oh, well. There is always next year...

10. My friend at the County Office...retired. So I'm working with someone new. It's not that she's bad. I just miss my friend Rick. He made our fundraisers so easy!

Sunny As Can Be!:

 1. Well, we did have a pretty productive Thursday. Last week. Quick trip to MVD. I think we were there, less than 20 minutes. Got our vehicle registration renewed.

 2. I have my Birth Certificate. The right one. My original had an error...in my name. But we managed to get it, in about 30 minutes.

 3. We went on the walk to Tome Hill. What a blessing that is! And I managed to do it alone. Which really gave me time to reflect on life. And to pray. It refreshed my soul so much!

 4. Torta Dinner! Do I need to say anything else? It was so yummy! I'm still thinking about it.

 5. Seeing friends. I had a meeting Saturday night. And I wasn't too excited about going. But you know what? I enjoyed catching up with friends. And seeing so many friendly faces. Completely excited, about the RYM opening. In just about a month!

 6. Easter!!! He is Risen! Everything about Sunday, made my soul sing! I just LOVE Jesus! I truly mean it, when I say that Jesus is my BFF. I couldn't do life, without him. He gives me strength, when I am weak. He believes in me, when I don't believe in myself. When I need comfort, he is there for me. Gosh, I LOVE Jesus!

 7. Easter BBQs. With tons of family and friends. It was just a nice day. Enjoyable. Fun. And so relaxing. Boy did we eat a lot too!

 8. Silly dogs. I just have to say, our dogs are amazing! And completely make my day. Every single day.

 9. Lunch with my Littlest Big Sis. And my SIL...and my Momma. We did a Birthday Lunch...a few weeks late. And although it was kinda quick, I totally enjoyed it. Boy Laguna Burgers are HUGE!!!

10. I also enjoyed a bite at Frontier this week. If you are local, you know what I mean. I love to eat there! But we don't go very often. I don't know why...

11. A visit with family. Although it was quick, I really enjoyed seeing my auntie and cousin. We took my cousin a little bag of treats. And just got to hangout for a few minutes. We're hoping to go back in a day or two.

12. Crafting success! We've been working our tails off. Literally. Trying to prepare for 2 Opening Days. And another festival. I got a few hat and bootie sets made...in just about 24 hours.

13. Finding my doll arm. I know it sounds like a minor thing. But I was so sad, when I lost it. I looked everywhere for it! My Mom finally found it. And now, I need to finish my doll.

I literally just need to stuff said arm, and sew all the parts together. I think I have a few rows to crochet. And the skirt. Then put the hair on. It sounds like a lot. But really, it's about an hour of work.

14. Hanging out with my Momma. It may not sound like a big deal. But I really enjoy our time together. I'm getting ready, to go back to work. Even if it's just a part-time job. So getting this time to hangout, is so special.

I enjoy the little things. Like having breakfast together. Crafting together. Even if we are working on completely different projects. And our adventures. They are always the best! Even a pretty mundane trip to the grocery store...is a fun adventure. When my Momma is involved.

15. Finding Reese's eggs...after Easter! For half price. The BEST shopping day of the year. Hands down. Love it! Those are my fav. And I accidentally gave away all the ones we bought. In Easter eggs and gifts. But it all worked out.

16. Getting into a local festival. I went on Monday to sign up. And it was so easy! We'll be selling for 3 different days in April. It's pretty exciting!

How was your week? I just love that Easter was this past week. I needed it. Of all the holidays, Easter really refreshes my soul. Like deep in my soul, it makes me feel good. Happy Thursday!

Crafts: Boy Edition

I'm always stumped, when it comes to boy stuff. Always! A couple of years ago, we were invited to a birthday party. For some Twin Boys. I had no clue. So I went to the toy department, and asked some boys...that were about their ages. And when they suggested a toy, I bought it. Times two!

But at the Growers' Markets, I always find this to be difficult. I mean, we don't have many little boys in our family. My friends don't have many boys either. So I struggle with what to make. My Mom has been sewing tons of boy items. Like little shirts, boys rompers, and sunhats. So adorbs!

Me? I'm completely stumped. So I took to my prized Google. And did a little search. I mean, the Market opens in just over a week! I need some boy items. Let's take a look at what I found...

 1. First up, this cute airplane. These would be fun to make. Just some popsicle sticks, a clothes pin, and a little piece of wood. You could paint them all sorts of fun colors. I'm seriously debating this one!

 2. This onesie is so cute! And wouldn't take too much to make. My Mom already does some cute onesies with matching diaper covers. But I like this one. Solely because of the tie!

 3. These little superhero capes...have been on our list forever! We bought some fabric last year. I just need to cut it out. And figure out an emblem to sew on the back. Oh...and make a mask. :)

 4. How about a dinosaur? Do all boys love a dinosaur? Just wondering. Is it something universal...like playing with cars? I like this little guy.

  5. I also like these monsters. I mean, you could have all sorts of fun, designing them. This is my kind of craft. Because you can change the basic monster, just by making the face different. Slightly different eyes...or a silly mouth. Now I want to make an army of monsters! I think these would be good, for a toddler.

  6. How about a tool belt? This is sorta like some of our girl items, that we make. You make the item, and buy stuff...to bring it to life. Has anyone seen some moderately priced play tools? Because this could be fun!

 7. This car mat is also fun! I already crochet a car mat. And the BOYS love them! I had a customer last year, that probably bought 5 during the season. It was her go-to birthday present for little boys. I like that this one also has a place for the little cars to go.

 8. This car mat is also cute. I like that the little garage, is a series of pockets. I believe this is also a roll-up version. And easy enough, for me to sew. I'm not a great sewer...like my Mom. So I like to keep my projects simple. With lots of straight lines. :)

 9. OMG! A little wallet. You wouldn't believe how many kiddos come to the Growers' Markets with their allowance. Ready to spend. And how many parents are freaking out! That those littles, are going to lose said money. I'm always picking up random scrunched up dollar bills...and chasing the littles down, that dropped them.

I think this would be perfect. For both boys and girls. And it looks pretty simple to make. You could probably use up, quite a bit of scrap fabric too!

10. On to crochet things. My forte! I think this little overall set is too cute! I've been searching out a pattern. But haven't found what I like. Maybe I just need to sit down and create my own. It shouldn't be too hard. But darn, this is cute!

11. So are these shoes! I struggle so much, with boy stuff. But I think these would be a perfect set. Very boyish. And cute. All rolled into one!

12. We make a ton of toys! All year long. It's the one thing, we never really stop making. I think this little bowling set, would be pretty cute. Something similar, to our tea set for the girls.

13. Like I said, we make a lot of toys. All. Year. LONG!!! And we make a ton of dolls. But I had never thought of a boy doll before. Until a friend of ours, recently bought her grandson...wait for it...a Boy Baby Alive. I had never seen them before.

But when you have a big sister, who is obsessed with dolls...it's only normal, to want your own. So why not? I'm going to have to figure out a pattern. Or go searching on Etsy for one. Is it a pretty common thing? For a younger brother, to want a boy doll?

14. Robots. I mean, you can't go wrong. Boy or girl. Change up the colors...and I think they'd be fun. These look like a smaller version. Under 8 inches. Which I like. I like a smaller toy. For 2 reasons. One, the kids can more easily play with it. Two, it doesn't cost as much to make. So you don't have to charge as much either.

Anyway, I have a pattern. From a book. For a large robot. About 12-18 inches. Depending on your gauge. But I'm looking for a smaller pattern. Just because. I really need to get to digging on Etsy. :)

15. Lastly, we have this dragon. I bought a book to make crochet dinosaurs. About a year ago. Thinking they'd be perfect. But they are HUGE! Which makes them an expensive item. And I like to have items, at every one's price points.

So I'm looking for smaller toys like this. I just think he is so cute! And a really good size. Now to figure out, where this pic came from...the story of my life!!!

Do you have boys? Do you know boys? Can you help me with what boys like? I'd love any sort of suggestion. Because I'm always at a loss. I know my car mats sell well. So do my Super Heroes. And Ami Guys. But other than that, what should I make.

We're even welcoming suggestions for my Momma. She has some cute things, that she sews. But we quickly run out of ideas. Girls are easy. So easy! We have so many in our family. But we could definitely use your help, in the boy department. Happy Tuesday!

Desiree

Easter Hangover...Of Sorts

Hi Guys! Did everyone survive the Holiday weekend? We had a fun filled weekend. That included tons and tons of eating! And lots of leftovers. So this week, we'll probably be eating a lot of those. The crazy thing is, I didn't even have to do any cooking. I made a fruit salad...and a bunch of candy!

Monday:
I'm thinking about leftovers tonight. We have lots of yummy chicken and salads. From our neighbors. They  invited us over, to a BBQ yesterday evening. And they packed us two big takeout boxes, full of yumminess.

Tuesday:
My Sister is taking us out. To celebrate my birthday. A little late. But that's how we roll. So we're meeting for burgers and fries. We're going to Laguna Burger. So I'm thinking, I'll be good for the day.

If you're local, have you tried it? We've been to the one, near the Casino. But we haven't tried the new one...in town.

Wednesday:
Hmm, I'm not sure. But I'm thinking about Fettuccine Alfredo. With shrimp and broccoli. I've been wanting this...for what seems like forever! And we have everything to make it!

Thursday:
Probably something simple. On the grill. Chicken and corn on the cob. Maybe a salad. Gosh, that sounds pretty amazing...

Friday:
I've been wanting tacos. Maybe that would be a fun and easy meal. By the end of the week, I'm ready for a break. Especially right now. While we are getting ready for the Grower's Market. And we're spending a ton of time, making items.

Saturday:
Another easy move. We're going to a birthday party. So I don't have to worry about dinner. Which makes me very excited! Besides, I'm excited to go celebrate my little cousin's birthday! Her momma, is one of my favorite cousins too. :)

Sunday:
Who are we kidding? By Sunday evenings, I'm usually completely exhausted. We've also started yard work. Gosh, there is a lot of that. So I'm thinking Wendy's. My Momma loves it. It's fast and easy. Oh, and she can sit and play her games. While I do some work. :)

What else am I thinking about this week? Food wise. Well, this salad sounded interesting. So did this one. And a good tuna salad, always makes sense in the Spring. My Mom is a HUGE fan of cauliflower. HUGE! So I did a little search for some cauliflower salads. And I came across this one. I think it would be yummy with some grilled chicken. I also adore a good Pasta Primavera. This one from the Pioneer Woman, sounds delish! I want to make this for lunch. Today!

What are you eating this week? Are there any recipes I should try? Food blogs, that I should be reading. Let me know!

XOXO,
Desiree

What's Up Wednesday #3

It's that time again. You know, What's Up Wednesday time! When I try and put some direction in my life. Joking! But really, these sort of posts, help me to stay a little organized. With my life. :)

Would you like to join in, on all the fun? It's super easy! Just answer some questions, and link up!

Now let's get started! If you are also doing a WUW, please link it. Or leave a comment with your link. I enjoy reading these.

 1. What We're Eating This Week:
Have you taken a look at this post? From Monday. I'm super excited about Friday's dinner. Good Friday Torta...is in my top 5 meals of the year! And while Garcia's has a pretty good one...nothing compares to my Momma's. Nothing!

 2. What I'm Reminiscing About:
Gosh, lots of things. But mostly loved ones who have passed away. March is such a tough month. So many of our loved ones, have gone to be with the Lord. During March. We are always celebrating them and their anniversaries!

 3. What I'm Loving:
2018 has been all about taking better care of myself. And I just can't get enough of these face masks! At least once a week, I'm using one. And I'm still totally in love with them.

 4. What We've Been Up To:
That would have to be, getting ready for the 2018 Growers' Market Season. I have been going to meetings, checking emails, buying supplies, working on items, and trying to decide what Markets we will be attending. So much stuff, that people don't see. Mostly we've been working on items, for the shop. And deciding on our display. :)

 5. What I'm Dreading:
The MVD! Hands down. I HATE going to that place. And we need to go for 2 things. Renew the registration for our car. And I need my Driver's License. Ugh! I'm already having anxiety over the entire situation. Maybe I can convince my Mom to get her license early too!

 6. What I'm Working On:
Organizing our garden. We weren't going to do one this year. But I find this picture on Facebook, and it got me thinking. My Mom also wants something to do, while I work. So I need to find some pallets. I already bought some seeds. And we'll probably go buy some plants on Friday. Any suggestions?

 7. What I'm Excited About:
The 2018 Growers' Market Season. Opening Day for one Market is in just over 2 weeks. The other is in May. I don't feel prepared. At all! But I'm super excited to get back to it! We're cutting back this year. And probably only doing 2 Markets. We'll see...

 8. What I'm Watching/Reading:
I went to watch I Can Only Imagine with my Mom yesterday. It was so good! And I would highly recommend it to you. It was so inspirational. One of those movies, that when you leave the theater...you are so happy and thankful. Also, I'd recommend MercyMe's music. It's incredible!

As far as TV, I've been loving new shows like 911. Which I'm so sad, had it's Season Finale last week. And I've been loving The Resident. This show could easily be my favorite show on TV! And an oldie but goody...Grey's Anatomy. When this show leaves TV, I will be so sad!!!

I've been trying to do more reading. As always, I'm reading the Bible. But I've also been digging into a box of books. That my friend sent me. Currently I'm reading this book. Someone was telling me that it's a movie. But I don't know...

 9. What I'm Listening To:
Lots of things honestly. When it comes to music, I have ADD. But I've had my Rory And Joey CD on replay. For the last month! It just seems so fitting. For this Season in my Life. And for the Easter Season. It makes me cry, feel good, and sing...all day long! Definitely something I'd recommend.

10. What I'm Wearing:
I've actually been dressing up more. And by that I mean not only jeans...but actual dresses. I know. For someone that lives in sweats, that is pretty amazing! And like every Spring, I'm swooning over Old Navy's dresses. Every Spring, they have a big sale. And I try and pick up a few dresses when they are $10. Along with a nicer dress, for Easter. This one is for $15. And calling my name! I'm not sure what color I like most...the green, yellow, or white.

11. What I'm Doing This Weekend:
All things Easter! Tomorrow and Friday, we'll attend Mass in the evening. Friday I'll drive my Momma to Tome. We'll walk from the highway to the hill. Because there is no way, she can make it up the hill. I might go for the climb. Depending on how my Mom is feeling. On Sunday, we'll be at Easter Sunrise Mass. And we'll spend the afternoon at a Family BBQ. That I'm super excited about. :)

12. What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month:
I don't think I've said it enough...in this blog post. The opening of the Albuquerque Downtown Growers' Market! I really enjoy the Market in general. And then we've made all these friends there. My Momma really enjoys getting out too. Oh, and we make some money for our little foundation. ALWAYS a good time! If you are local, stop by and check it out. We'll be there twice a month...all season long! The ABQDGM is open on Saturdays from 8-12PM, at Robinson Park.

13. What Else Is New:
Well, I'm looking for a part-time job. Something near our home. Because my Momma is not supposed to be left alone. I'm thinking of one of the nearby stores. Retail isn't that bad. And pretty flexible. Which is what I need. With her health issues and doctors' appointments.

I was also asked to start teaching a Crochet Class. At a local Craft Store. Which could be a lot of fun. And I'm going to start teaching more classes at the DOH. Maybe the hospital too. My schedule is about to get real full!

Bonus Question: What's Your Favorite Easter Tradition:
Mine would definitely be Easter Sunrise Mass. It feels so good to start off the celebrations, at Church. I LOVE going to Church during the entire Holy Week. It reminds me so much, of my childhood. And going to Church with my Nanie. But there is something about Sunrise Mass. On Easter Sunday. Alleluia!

That's it for my WUW. I'm off to go take our car for some routine maintenance. And I need to go get my documents, to renew my Driver's License. Please wish me luck! Maybe say a few prayers for me. And perhaps, I might sneak in some crafting. I needed to make about 20 little crochet items...before Sunday. Happy Wednesday!

XOXO,
Desiree
